It seems I've been working on the opening chapters of my WIP forever. Probably because I have. This is not, however, due to me needing to have the opening perfect before being able to continue onwards. So, last month I added about 3000 words to my opening chapter. I talked about it here. Well, as I've been continuing happily along with my WIP it turns out I wasn't done with the first draft of the book's opening just yet.

So, I fixed the opening chapter of my WIP without having to toss the chapter out the window. I found a way to open the same scene about a half an hour before it currently opened. This allowed me to make the opening much more personal and more tightly focused upon the viewpoint character. I simply wrote about 3000 words of the new beginning of ( Read more... )

So I like the opening chapter of my WIP. It accomplished just about everything I would want out of an opening chapter. Just about. This opening chapter would fit nicely if it was the opening chapter of a second or third book in a series. Yet it fails on a critical level ( Read more... )
